Újra a pályán a szörnyű baleset után

Mikor Chris Stewart balesetezett versenyautójával, az ütközés annyira erős volt, hogy a feje elszakadt a nyakától.
A 14 éves fiú autójának egyik kereke kigyulladt, majd édesanyja szeme láttára fejjel beleütközött egy fémkorlátba.
Chris most azon hat ember közé tartozik, akik túlélték az „akasztófa-sérülést”, és az egyetlen, aki teljesen felépült belőle, egy hétórás műtétnek köszönhetően.
Az operáció során a koponyája hátulját visszaillesztették a gerincoszlop tetejére fémlapok és csontszövet segítségével.
A fanatikus autóversenyző most orvosait is meglepve visszatért a versenypályára.
Sebésze a következőket mondta: „Chris az egyetlen ember a világon, aki túlélt egy ilyen sérülést és ismét normális életet él. Voltak még néhányan, akik túlélték, de teljesen lebénultak.”
A fiú édesanyja, Debbie tehetetlenül nézte végig a 2006 szeptemberében történt balesetet.
Később a következőket nyilatkozta: „Emlékszem, az autója frontálisan beleütközött egy korlátba, majd összetört. Talán minden édesanya legrosszabb rémálma, hogy a gyerekét hasonló helyzetben látja.”
A tűzoltóknak 90 percig tartott, hogy kivágják Christ a kocsiból, majd mentővel a sürgősségire szállították.
A mentősöknek mozdulatlanul kellett tartaniuk a fejét, ha csak egy millimétert mozdult volna bármerre, akár meg is halhatott volna.
„Még azt sem hittük volna, hogy túléli, nem hogy beszélni vagy sétálni fog. Hihetetlen, hogy újra vezet.” – fűzte hozzá a fiú édesanyja.
