A gyermekvédelmiseket is felelősségre vonták, miután egy kétéves kislányt halálra vert a bébiszittere.
A kétéves Demi-Leigh Mahon-ra a 15 éves fiú, Karl McCluney felügyelt, mialatt a kislány drogfüggő anyukája a családi pótlékért ment. Mire az anya visszaért, a kislány 68 különböző sérülést szenvedett, és alig lélegzett. A kegyetlen gyerekvigyázó dühbe gurult, amikor Demi-Leigh sírni kezdett.
Megpofozta, megharapta és rugdosta is a védtelen csöppséget.
Két nappal később, a kislány a kórházban életét vesztette.
A későbbiekben kiderült, hogy a szomszédság már többször értesítette a gyermekvédelmi szerveket, hogy a drogos anya képtelen volt megfelelően ellátni kislányát.
Két éven belül ez a második eset, amelyben a salfordi gyermekvédők mulasztást követtek el. Demi-Leigh sosem volt rajta a veszélyeztetett gyermekek listáján.
A gyilkossági ügyben a bíróság jövő hónapban hirdet ítéletet.
