A szuperhős is csak ember. Hancock például mindenkit megment, aki menthető, ő maga viszont egyre menthetetlenebbnek tűnik. Baj esetén magasan szárnyal, egyébként meglehetősen mélyen van. Talán nem kéne szupermennyiségű alkoholt lenyomnia minden este; talán rossz, ha a gyermekek erkölcsös példaképe egy lakókocsiban lakik; talán hiba jócselekedet közben lazán romba dönteni a fél várost. Amikor tehát egy bevetése során találkozik Ray Embreyvel, az állástalan imázsépítő szakértővel, felkéri, hogy segítsen neki visszakerülni a közösség szívébe. A hivatásosnak mindegy, kit fényez profi mód, vállalja a megbízást, és ezzel csapdába kerül. Arra ugyanis nem számított, hogy a felesége nem véletlenül pártolja annyira a lecsúszott szuperembert.
